You probably have heard of trolling before, but are quite confused with its meaning. I wouldn't be surprised if the troll doll comes to your mind. But seriously, trolling is a unique, rather old school fishing method that is equally effective as fly fishing.
Basically, trolling is used in
commercial fishing and requires numerous hooks and lines. Trolling is a method used in old times when explorers travel the seas and explore the different large fish species in each bodies of water. At that time, tuna is the target fish. But as time went by, trolling is discovered to attract almost all big fishes; salmon and so other commercial species are also caught using this method. Although it is less preferred than netting, trolling still provides anglers with big game. Here, the hooks (usually with live baits) are simultaneously lowered in the ocean waters. After all the lines are fixed on their places, fishers wait until the fishes take the baits in.
Most fishes that are caught by trolling are delivered to frozen, fresh, and smoked fishing markets. I learned about this through a chef friend who confessed that the seafood he uses for his
smoked salmon pizza is bought in such markets. However, the supply of troll catches is not stable. It usually arrives on the market during salmon's peak season.
